Family Owned. Locally Grown.
Waynesburg residents Dawn and Ethan Phillips had a dream of opening a greenhouse operation. They gardened together and discussed their visions while commuting to work in Morgantown before they were married in 1999. After the birth of their first son Jacob, Ethan started working for a local greenhouse operation and learned the trade first-hand. Dawn continued working, dividing her time between her job, raising a family and the business.
They started with a large garden on the Phillips family farm in Ruff Creek. In 2006 they built their first greenhouse, and in 2007 opened for their first spring season selling bedding plants, hanging baskets and vegetables in Ruff Creek.
Dawn began working for Mother Earth Farm full time in 2008 helping to provide an expanded selection of perennials, annuals, herbs, vegetable plants, houseplants, hanging baskets and variety planters.
"We again increased our business this year, that has encouraged us to expand our product line for the 2010 season." Dawn says, "we hope to keep growing each year".
Part of our expansion this year has been a collaboration with Green Arc. Green Arc clients are helping us with our recycling program. They are washing and sorting out pots so they are sanitary to re-use for new potted plants. This helps provide work for disabled residents and keep plastic out of land fills. If you have plastic pots that can be re-used please feel free to drop them off at our sales location.
